Malnutrition:

When there is an imbalance between the nutrients your body needs and nutrients it receives.

Your body needs certain nutrients in certain amounts in order to function smoothly. When you have too much or too little it makes your body have to work harder. This can cause your body to take from areas it shouldn’t because its trying to get what it needs to function. Often times, your immune system is the 1st to shut down. This can lead to serious health problems.

What is Malnutrition:

Undernutrition: Deficiency in nutrients ( what most people think of)

Macronutrient Undernutrition: Deficiency in macronutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, and fats. These are the nutrients your body relies on for energy

Micronutrient Undernutrition: Deficiency in micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals. Your body needs these to help function smoothly. This can become more severe and have lasting effects if not taken care of.

Overnutrition: Excess consumption of nutrients. This can led to obesity, and being overweight.

Macronutrient Overnutrition: When your body has excess protein, fats, and carbohydrates

Micronutrient Overnutrition: Tends to happen when you are taking mineral, vitamin supplements and you body has too much

Types of Malnutrition:

Symptoms:

  • Unintentional Weight loss

  • Reduced Energy levels; Fatigue

  • Stunted growth

  • Low body temperature , unable to get warmed

  • Frequent and severe infections

  • Proper Diet
